Why do you sometimes see opened joints with polyurethane mouldings?

When stored for prolonged periods in very humid environments, it is possible for the dimensions of any brand of Polyurethane Moulding to change slightly due to water absorption. Once installed, Polyurethane Mouldings will dissipate any residual humidity and return to their original dimensions, often showing cracks in the joints. As environmental conditions are extremely difficult to control, as ORAC® is distributed in more then 50 countries around the world, ORAC® has developed a solution to this vexing problem that guarantees perfect joint adhesion, regardless of the conditions in which the Mouldings may have been stored. Easy to use, ' ORAC® FIX EXTRA ' is a polyurethane adhesive that actually “welds” the mouldings together, as opposed to merely attaching them. Thus, impending expansion conflicts are uniformly dispersed throughout the entire length of moulding, leaving the joints unharmed.

How can you repair joints if the appropriate glue (ORAC® FIX EXTRA) has not been used?

Remove the glue in the open joints. Try to inject ORAC® FIX EXTRA into the joint (With a caulking gun). Once the ORAC® FIX EXTRA is in the joint, it will immediately start to react with the humidity of the air and start foaming. Removal of any excessive adhesive can be done after a couple hours after the surface of the adhesive has begun to dry or after hardening with a knife. Fill eventual gaps with Orac DecoFix Pro (smoothen with a humid sponge).
Paint the filled gaps after minimum 24 hours. Click herefor more info about our glue.

Is the glue ‘DecoFix Pro’ after harding still washable with water?

No. This glue can be wiped of with a humid sponge immediately after installation, so when the glue is not dry yet. After (in normal circumstances) 48 hours, the glue is completely dry and it is resistible against water: it can be painted with paint on water basis. Click here for more info about our glue.

How do you finish the corners with Orac-mouldings?

Orac has its own mitre boxes to cut the angles. Please read carefully our instructions for mitring the mouldings. Always start with an outside corner (because this is more visible) and work towards inside corner. Click here for more info about our different mitre boxes.

Can Orac be installed without any paint?

In theory it is possible. In practice we do not advise this. First it will be difficult to hide the joint. Secondly ORAC DECOR is a high quality product that requires a quality finish. We kindly advise you to use an acrylic based primer.

What kind of paints can be used on Orac products?

ORAC DECOR is a high quality product and therefore we strongly do advise to use quality primers and finishes. A slight sanding and cleaning of the mouldings before painting is strongly recommended in order to avoid all dust on the surface and assure a good adhesion of the paint on the moulding.

How do you have to install several flexible mouldings?

Before installation, we strongly recommend to read the fixing instructions for 'flexible mouldings'.
If several 'ORAC FLEX' mouldings are required for a curvature or arch longer than 2 metres, the mouldings must be joined together first, before being fixed to the wall. If the flexible mouldings are fitted to the wall individually, it is likely that they will not butt up against one another properly.

Lightly sand both butt-ends of the ORAC FLEX mouldings first. Lay them all end to end on a flat surface (e.g. the floor) and then glue them together using Orac Fix Extra adhesive. Because this adhesive also needs a certain setting time and the ORAC FLEX mouldings will be subjected to a certain amount of stress due to the curved substrate, it will be necessary to give the mouldings additional fixing when being fitted. This can be achieved using nails or screws driven through the mouldings in the areas where adhesive is applied. Once adequate setting has taken place, they can be hammered or driven through the moulding. The holes remaining as a result are to be filled flush with Orac DecoFix Pro.

Paint the flexible mouldings after they are being installed. Click here if you wish to download the user manual or the radius information sheet.

How do you join flexible to hard mouldings?

We recommend that the flexible moulding(s) are been installed first with DecoFix Pro and nails to the wall.
Afterwards you can install the rigid Orac Decor moulding with Orac Fix Extra adhesive to the Orac Flex moulding and with DecoFix Pro to the wall. In this way you will achieve a perfectly continuous joint between the ORAC FLEX moulding and the standard moulding. Click here to download the user manual of the Orac Flex.

How much weight can our columns support?

Our columns are not made to carry weight. You’d better use two half columns around a metal construction.

How to shorten columns?

Our system of columns is conceived that in principle you do not touch the 'shaft' or the 'capital' of the columns. On the other hand our plinths are particularly designed to be shortened should there be any need for.

If for any reason, you have to shorten the shaft of a column, we do advise to buy two half columns that you can first cut and afterwards fix together (using Orac Fix Extra). The reason is that our full columns are produced in a different technology so that the thickness of the sides is only 2 to 3 mm which will make it extremely complicate to cut and adapt. On the other hand our half columns made of high density foam are much thicker (approx. 10 to 15 mm) which makes it much easier to cut and adapt.
Between plinth, capital and column do use Orac DecoFix Pro.

Can Orac-products be installed in humid areas or outside?

Yes, then use only our Ms Polymer glue instead of Orac DecoFix Pro. Use a special paint if Orac is installed outside.

Is it possible to realise ‘custom mouldings’ or to modify the dimensions of the products?

It would be possible to make special models but then quantities must be minimum 1.5 km. The extra cost for the mould costs approx 10.000USD. If dimensions must be modified, a new mould has also to be made.

Is it possible to use a normal TL-lamp as indirect lighting behind the C.900 and C.901 (distance between: 1.5cm)?

Yes, this is possible. However we have conceived a special lightning system to be used together with our cornices that is easy to install and gives a perfect light.

How many people are necessary to put up the mouldings?

Considering the light weight of our mouldings, one person can easily carry out the installation.
